Roswell resident continues fundraising efforts for lung cancer research - MDJOnline.com
After a close to capacity “Pearls for a Cure” luncheon benefiting American Cancer Society and lung cancer research, Roswell resident Patty Watkins shows no signs of slowing down.
She will partner with ACS to host “Celebrate the Night in White” on Jan. 19.
The goal of the evening is to “white out the night.” with a focus on “celebration of survivorship and new advances in lung cancer research.”
White is the color of the ribbon representing lung cancer.
The fundraiser event is from 6:30 to 11 p.m. at Mason Fine Art in Atlanta.
“Heavy hors d’oeuvres and beverages” will be served.
Attendees have the opportunity to participate in live and silent auctions.
Auction items include a two-night weekend stays at Atlanta Evergreen Marriott; one with a Golf Getaway and another with breakfast for Two in Waterside Restaurant.
A photography session with “World Renowned” Photographer Bradford in his New York or Palm Beach location is also included in the auction. A one-night hotel stay is included, but winner should note travel is not included.
More auctions are planned to be revealed closer to the event.
Silk Groove Band will provide music and entertainment for the evening.
Proceeds will benefit American Cancer Society and lung cancer research.
According to the American Cancer Society, “lung cancer is the second most common cancer in both men and women in the United States, not counting skin cancer, and it is the leading cause of cancer death accounting for 1 in 4 cancer deaths.”
Statistics show approximately “14 percent of all new cancers are lung cancer” diagnoses.
“The American Cancer Society is working to finish the fight against every cancer in every community. We are the largest private, not-for-profit funder of cancer research in the United States, investing more than $4 billion since 1946,” said the website.
ACS estimates that contributions played a significant part in efforts of saving “more than 1.5 million lives” in the United States in the past twenty years.
“Now, that is a reason to celebrate, so please join us,” according to the release.
Admission is $100 per person.
