Flowers For Oscar The Celebrity Stowmarket Cat At Tesco

On Wednesday, the owner of Oscar, the famous Stowmarket cat, confirmed that her beloved tabby pet had been put down after it was discovered he had stomach cancer. 

Oscar, who would jump into car boots and await customers at the entrance of the Cedar Links Road store, has left a very special place in the hearts of people in Stowmarket.

Flowers can have now been seenlining the foyer of the store, where the beloved feline would normally be seen lying.

Simon Pierce, from Bury St Edmunds, said: "I'm completely heartbroken and he wasn't even my cat. 

"Time heals everything, but for now, I am okay with being very sad.

"Oscar became part of our routine of shopping. It was amazing when we saw him and disappointing when we didn't.

"I will probably shed a tear for a few weeks when I visit the store.

"Goodbye, dear Oscar. Sleep well."

Gary Robinson, 57, who works at the supermarket and is setting up a pub quiz in honour of the cat, said: "Oscar has been with Tesco as long as I remember - I've been with Tesco almost five years now and I would see him every day!

"I have decided to host a charity pop quiz for Kitty Kat Rescue, a local charity in Oscar's name." 

Eleanor Abbott, 19, from Stowmarket, said "He would follow us around the shop every day and when we used to pack the car he would sit in the boot.

"He was very much loved by everyone and he will be missed."
